Fort Manoel

Fort Manoel

On my walk round Valletta peninsula I looked across at Fort Manoel on Manoel island and noticed people walking around it. It has been closed for a while due to a major restoration project. So we decided to go over on a Sunday morning and take a closer look. Turns out it has recently started opening to the public for one Sunday a month to the public (for free).  By sheer luck it was one of those Sundays! So we…

Walk 2 – Valletta

Walk 2 – Valletta

Walk number 2 today. Valletta peninsula. A no-brainer with the transport for this one as we will start and finish at the same point. Therefore I parked at the MCP carpark just outside the gates of Valletta.  We started the walk at the Triton fountain which is just outside Valletta City Gates. It has recently been restored and only opened last week so this was the first time I had seen the statue in all it’s glory. It makes a…

Planning walk 2 – Valletta peninsula

Planning walk 2 – Valletta peninsula

Bit of a delay to the schedule as I was sick last week with a flue thing and so couldn’t do a walk. And this week has been busy so far. But tomorrow is planned for walk number two which is round the peninsula of Valletta. Valletta is a word heritage city and City of Culture 2018 (just officially opened last weekend) so there is plenty to see. We (Taco and I) will be walking around the city walls which…

Walk 1 – St Julian’s to Floriana

Walk 1 – St Julian’s to Floriana

First walk today. Taco and I were out the house at 8.55 – although slight set back when I reached the end of our road and realised I’d forgotten poo bags for Taco. Here’s us leaving for the start of the walk. Officially began the walk at 9.15 from Spinola Bay. Unfortunately the sunny day I’d been promised on my weather app was not to be. It was quite overcast and grey. Good for walking but not for photos. However…

Winter

Winter

So apparently it is officially winter in Malta. Locals have long been in coats, jeans and winter boots. I personally am still in t-shirts most days. Sunday was the equivalent of a British summers day with a high of 21 degrees… A bit of wind and on the water front and I did actually see two men with hats on! We spent this ‘winter’s’ day wandering around Birgu – one of the 3 cities. Beautiful buildings, more rock, more forts…

Birkikara

Birkikara

These beautiful houses are everywhere. Gorgeous decorative doors and brightly colour balcony windows. We tried to have a walk down this peaceful road in Birkikara and admire the architecture. However our 4 year old had other plans. She screamed her head off because she wanted a pair of shoes she’d seen in a shop. We left but promised to return. Without her.

Traffic

Traffic

This is my first post and I didn’t want it to be a negative one but I’ve had such a bad morning I’m afraid it is. Traffic. Traffic. Traffic. Seriously the traffic in Malta is insane. Some days it feels like all I do is creep along in traffic moving about 1km round the island.
